Kenyon is committed to ensuring that students have the financial support they need for their education. As part of that mission, the College creates a variety of campus work experiences, many educational by design, where students develop skills that complement their studies and further their life goals.
Commitment to Financial Support
Kenyon’s pledge to meet 100 percent of students’ demonstrated financial need is fundamental to who we are and critical to our commitment to access and inclusion. Work-study is an important component of how we do that. We understand the importance of supporting students’ financial needs and have taken steps to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on our students.
Strengthening Campus Work Programs
The COVID pandemic brought into focus the many ways Kenyon supports students, including through campus work experiences. While it was clear that some issues were specific to the pandemic, it also was clear that a broader review of campus work was needed. Based on input from students, faculty and staff gathered in fall 2020 by Campus Senate and a special committee of the Board of Trustees, Kenyon has taken meaningful steps to strengthen its work-study and campus work programs as part of its core educational mission.
Engaging Student Voices
In fall 2020, Kenyon's Board and administration conducted a three-month review of work-study and campus work experiences, seeking the views of students, faculty and staff on these important programs. That review included listening to the concerns of students advocating for a union of student workers. The College remains committed to listening to student concerns and working together, as a community of administrators, faculty and students, to meet the educational needs of all Kenyon students.
