Where athletics meet architecture
Big, superbly equipped, architecturally striking, and filled with light — and action — the Lowry Center is arguably the best small-college sports facility in the country. Everyone, from varsity athletes to casual exercise buffs, comes to the LC to run, lift, crunch, swim, shoot, dribble, serve, swing and slam. To play a game, or watch a game. Or take a fitness class. Or just hang out.
The athletic center includes: a competition pool, a basketball arena, an indoor track, indoor tennis courts, racquetball and squash courts, a recreational gym area, a large weight and fitness room, dance and workout classrooms, and a theater often used for screening films. Just outside: outdoor track and football field, tennis courts, fields for baseball, softball, lacrosse, field hockey, soccer, rugby. And the 14-mile Kokosing Gap Trail.
Fact: The Lowry Center's sheer magnificence comes from not just size but also glass walls and light, which pours in through 50 skylights in the four-acre roof.
