Renovation work on Kenyon’s 180-year-old Bexley Hall is complete. Construction began in winter 2022, and the dormitory welcomed its first students in spring 2024. The former seminary building was redesigned to house 40 students in suites, most of which feature two double rooms, two singles, a private lounge and bathrooms. The fully accessible structure has an elevator, laundry facilities, three student lounges and a full kitchen. The exterior of Bexley Hall was faithfully restored to expose its original Gothic details and masonry. New, insulated windows installed throughout the building were designed to meet current sustainability while also blending seamlessly into the preserved historic structure.
Colburn Hall, the former library for the seminary and attached to the Bexley Hall, was also fully renovated. It also reopened in spring 2024 and serves as a student event space. A new outdoor terrace was constructed and new windows were added where library stacks used to be. The original wood ceiling and trusses were also fully exposed, highlighting the original elegance of the large, open interior space.
