Room Assignments and Changes
Assigned Space
Each student is assigned one desk, desk chair, bed, dresser and closet/wardrobe. Residents must confine their personal belongings to their assigned furniture/space. Should a roommate move out, the remaining resident may not appropriate additional furniture or space not allocated to them as a new roommate may be assigned at any time.
Community Spaces
Lounges, hallways and other community spaces (i.e. multi-person restrooms, kitchens, etc.) in residential spaces are designated as common-use spaces. As such, they are open to all students assigned to that residential space/area. Any person or group wishing to hold a meeting or gathering in a reservable lounge or community space must submit a room reservation request through EMS. Lounges and other community spaces are not to be used as a supplemental housing space or other longer-term closed gatherings without the permission of the Office of Residential Life. Any damages in a lounge, hallway or other community space will result in charges allocated to the individual(s) responsible. If the individual(s) responsible for the damage cannot be identified, charges will be divided amongst the entire room, group or building of students responsible for that space.
Room Assignments
When making room assignments, reassignments or moves, the Office of Residential Life will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or other protected class. Students may be moved or reassigned in response to a bias incident, student conduct, safety and security, roommate conflicts, facility needs, consolidation, Title IX compliance and any other reason deemed appropriate by the Office of Residential Life. Residential Life reserves the right to assign a new student to any open vacancy.
Room/Suite/Apartment Changes
Room/suite/apartment changes, including moves made within suites/apartments, must be approved by the Office of Residential Life. Room changes between college residences must be approved by the Office of Residential Life before a new room assignment will be offered. A room freeze (i.e. no room changes occurring, unless it is for health and safety) is established for the first 14 days of each semester. Requests for room assignment changes based upon discriminatory reasons will not be granted.
Administrative Reassignment
Under the Housing and Meal Plan Terms and Conditions, Kenyon College reserves the right to permanently move and reassign students should it be deemed appropriate to do so. Students may be moved or reassigned in response to a bias incident, a violation of the student code of conduct, safety and security, roommate conflicts, facility needs, consolidation and any other reason deemed appropriate by the Office of Residential Life.
Vacating a Space
Any student who is notified that they are reassigned, terminated from housing, or who is withdrawing from the College, must vacate their space within 48 hours of receipt of such notice unless instructed otherwise by the Office of Residential Life. Any of the student’s possessions remaining on the premises after that time will be deemed abandoned, the student may be assessed a late-vacate fee up to $150, and any cost incurred in removing the remaining possessions will be charged to the student.
