Packing, Cleaning and Moving Out
Packing and Cleaning
Students are advised to plan ahead and create a timeline for acquiring boxes, packing, cleaning and moving out — and for making over-the-summer storage arrangements, if needed. Packing materials are available at several Mount Vernon businesses and at the Kenyon College Bookstore.
Students will need to clean their room/apartment (including any shared common spaces). Students should coordinate cleaning plans with their roommate(s) — additional cleaning charges or damages will be billed to all roommates unless an individual takes responsibility.
Recycling facilities and dumpsters will be available in residential areas.
There are no on-campus summer storage options, but local off-campus options are available. Please note that all bicycles left on campus will be donated, sold or discarded. Students residing on campus over the summer must temporarily store their bicycles in their rooms to avoid confiscation.
Check-out Process
Students have the option to checkout of their room either with a staff member or through the express check-out process.
Students wishing to complete their check-out with a Community Advisor (CA) or other staff member in Residential Life should email their CA or the Office of Residential Life to schedule a date and time. Students must sign up at least 24 hours in advance of the requested check-out time. Rooms must be completely vacated and personal belongings removed for an in-person checkout to be completed. Students will turn in their room key at the time of checkout and the staff member will assess the room for damages. Students who elect this checkout method can appeal any damage charges billed to their account.
Residents who wish to expedite the check-out process may choose to use an Express Check-out Packet; this packet includes an envelope for the resident’s key(s) and a place for the resident to complete important information. Students wishing to use this express service waive their right to appeal any charges/damages found in their assigned living space. The entire Express Check-out Packet/keys must be turned into the Residential Life Office in the lower level of Gund Commons or placed in the black safe at the top of the stairs in Gund Commons. Blank Express Check-out forms are available in Gund Commons in the Residential Life Office and by the black safe. Students should not drop keys in the safes in the residence halls.
College Furniture
All furnishings provided by Kenyon must remain in the room/suite/apartment and common areas unless specifically authorized by the Office of Residential Life. Any non-college owned furniture must be removed by the student upon check-out.
