Housing and Assignment Policies

This section of the Residential Life Handbook includes the residential requirements and agreements below and also policies related to the housing selection process, room assignments and changes, housing accommodations, upperclass housing options, moving in, furniture and decorations, electrical equipment, appliances and cooking, prohibited items, and packing, cleaning and moving out.

Residential Requirement

All students enrolled at Kenyon are required to live in College-owned housing and enroll in the College dining plan. Kenyon students are prohibited from utilizing non-Kenyon facilities or living spaces to supplement their College housing. Students seeking an exception from the residential requirement must receive prior written permission from the Office of Residential Life. Students found in violation of this requirement will be subject to disciplinary action.

Acceptance Agreement

All students living in Kenyon College residences must sign the Housing and Meal Plan Terms and Conditions for the full academic year. This agreement establishes the terms and conditions of occupancy in the College residences between the room occupant and Kenyon College. All residents are expected to review and understand the obligations outlined in this agreement.

Residence and Room Environment

Residents are expected to treat all residence hall common spaces and individual rooms/suites/apartments with respect and care and may be held accountable for damages, other than normal wear and tear, found in the room/suite/apartments. In order to protect the health and safety of all residents it is expected that all rooms/suites/apartments be kept at an acceptable level of cleanliness. This includes the prohibition of cleaning game or fish and having an unsanitary residential space or accumulation of garbage.

Failure to maintain the expectations of an acceptable level of cleanliness could result in a violation of the student code of conduct and cause action from the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.

Roommate Living Agreement

This agreement is designed to help roommates get to know each other and to open and establish lines of communication on topics that are important for successful roommate relationships. Information about living with a roommate and the Roommate Living Agreement form can be found on the Residential Life website. Please complete this agreement with your roommate(s) and keep one copy in your room in the event you would like to reference it or make changes.

Noise and Quiet Hours

Quiet hours for all residential spaces are Sunday through Thursday, midnight to 8 a.m., and Saturday through Sunday, 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. During final exam periods, quiet hours are 24 hours a day. All other times are considered courtesy hours, when students are asked to cooperate with requests from other community members when noise is disruptive.
