A familiar face has become director of the Office of Student Engagement: Caleb Young, who joined Kenyon as assistant director in the office during the summer of 2021. Young, whose first day in the new position was Monday, Sept. 19, follows former director Mick Steiner, who departed Kenyon in June.

“Moving into this role is truly an honor, and one that would not be possible without the support of my student engagement colleagues, the Student Affairs Division and our students,” Young said. “My hope is to continue the great work of my predecessor in Student Engagement to continue to meet the needs of our students and campus partners.”

An Ohio native, Young graduated from Ashland University and earned a master’s degree in education from Cleveland State University. He worked at several institutions including the Ohio State University prior to arriving at Kenyon.

The Office of Student Engagement forms the hub for campus involvement outside of the classroom. As director, Young’s primary responsibilities will include oversight of Greek life on campus, the Weaver Wednesday late-night alcohol-free programming series, and student organization support and programming coordination.

“Throughout the interview process we were impressed with Caleb’s dedication to student success and to making our campus a space where leadership development and sense of belonging are prioritized,” said Dean of Students Brian Janssen, who oversees the student engagement office. “I look forward to working alongside Caleb as he and the student engagement team continue to support student success.”

Vice President for Student Affairs Celestino Limas shared, “Caleb has shown a true commitment to the Kenyon student experience in his time on campus. I am very excited for what is to come with the Office of Student Engagement under Caleb’s direction.”

The Student Affairs Division will shortly begin a search for a new assistant director of student engagement.
