Student Spotlight

The inaugural Gundies awards recognized student leaders and the impact their organizations have on campus during a recent ceremony organized by the Office of Student Engagement.

Date

Student-run organizations and their leaders took center stage Thursday night during a special awards ceremony honoring them at Gund Commons.

The new awards, named the Gundies — a playful reference to “The Dundies” given out in the sitcom “The Office” — were established this year by the Office of Student Engagement as a way to highlight important work being done by students on campus, said Caleb Young, director of student engagement.

“Our students put a lot of work into their student organizations,” he said. “It’s a big-time commitment outside of the classroom for them, and they care deeply about their organizations and the huge impact they make on campus.”

The event, which was attended by more than 125 people, represents a reimagining of a variety of student awards that were last given out more than a decade ago. The 11 winners of the 2024-2025 Gundies were nominated by fellow students and selected by a committee of staff members representing academic affairs and student affairs.
