Homecoming 2024

The first real rain in months did not dampen the spirits of students and alumni who celebrated Homecoming over the weekend.

More than 200 alumni joined students for events including the Black Student Union’s 55th reunion, an LGBTQ+ alumni reunion, 50 years of the sociology department, the Athletics Hall of Fame induction — and football, soccer and volleyball wins.

Alumni volunteers with Alumni Council and Kenyon Fund Executive Committee were joined by alumni returning to plan for their reunions in May.

After building an 18-0 halftime lead during its Homecoming contest on Saturday, the Kenyon College football team survived a wild fourth quarter in which it scored a last-second touchdown to register a 32-26 win over the College of Wooster.
Returning alumni and current students took part in a speed networking reception facilitated by the Career Development Office on Friday in Peirce Pub.
Jane Pryma '12 delivered the sociology keynote “Pain (Mis)Management: How Sociology Helps Us Understand the Twin Crises of Chronic Pain and Opioid Misuse.”
Rain scotched the planned ribbon-cutting of Thomas Hall, but tours — and cookies — were still provided of the newest South Campus residence hall, opening in January. 
Karen Williams, a stand-up comic and gerontologist, delivered a keynote address to alumni returning to mark 55 years of the Black Student Union. 
President Julie Kornfeld chatted with BSU alumni following their keynote address.
Professor of Classics Adam Serfass and classics majors Ellis Copley ’25 and Chiara Nevard ’25 led a one-hour walking tour featuring stops at Latin and Greek inscriptions around campus, including in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Ransom Hall and elsewhere. The project was funded through a Bicentennial Special Project Grant.

Founding alumni members Rocco Danese ’23, Delaney Gallagher ’23, James Loveland ’22 and Spencer Hirsch ’23 returned to help christen Flats, a new student-run bar below the Bookstore that opened this semester.

The third annual Homecoming Block Party featured field games, inflatables, face painting, an all-campus lunch and more.
