Family Fun

Activities and events punctuated by perfect fall weather made for a memorable Family Weekend.

Things were picture perfect for Family Weekend as students and enthusiastic parents enjoyed a full slate of activities against a vivid backdrop of fall foliage.

In the College’s bicentennial year, more than 1,100 visitors registered for festivities from Oct. 18-20 that included theater and music performances, sporting events, lectures and much more.

While walks along Middle Path were surrounded by sights of the season — leaves colored bright red, yellow and orange — other signs were evident at the Brown Family Environmental Center’s Harvest Festival and the Kenyon Farm’s campfire and pumpkin patch.

Elsewhere, campus buildings were humming with activity. Arts lovers were treated to dramatic productions like “Godspell” and “Julius Caesar” as well as the sounds of the Kokosingers and Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

Faculty expertise was on display through open classrooms, but student scholars had their moments, too, presenting their findings from Kenyon’s summer research programs and other creative work.

There were campus tours, meet-and-greets, Kenyon Parents Council gatherings and athletic contests aplenty, as the football team took on Wittenberg University and the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams hosted the annual Kenyon Relays.

And while everyone seemed to be enjoying the present, there were nods to the future as well, including a dedication for a new South Campus residence hall.

“As we think of history throughout the year, we have made truly historic additions to this campus, including these 100-year-plus buildings,” President Julie Kornfeld said at the dedication. “Both the Bexley renovation and these new, modern, residence halls were made possible thanks to gifts to the Our Path Forward to the Bicentennial campaign, through which alumni, parents, faculty, staff and students were invited to give to support the people and places of Kenyon.”
