In 2022, Intel announced that it would construct a $28 billion chip manufacturing complex just over 30 miles south of Kenyon. The project is expected to bring 3,000 jobs to the region, and greatly increase the demand for housing — including in Knox County, Kenyon’s home.
To prepare, the Knox County Area Development Foundation enlisted the help of economics professor Katie Black and her student Joseph Pozo ‘23 to study the housing supply and demand in Knox County. Their work served as the foundation for development projects designed to right-size the housing stock for the expected boom.
For Pozo, the experience inspired an interest in urban planning. After graduating from Kenyon, he went to work for The Jericho Project, an organization focused on addressing housing insecurity in New York City.
