Join us for a event sponsored by the Asian and Middle East Studies department. We are thrilled to welcome Douglas Northrop, a renowned expert in modern Central Asian history at the University of Michigan.

Northrop will speak on his current research, which brings together environmental, colonial, cultural, and urban history in telling the story of the tsarist and Soviet empires through the lens of natural disaster — specifically, a series of major earthquakes that struck cities along the Eurasian frontier during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
