Eligibility
Graduates of Kenyon's Young Writers program who apply for the Kenyon Writing Award will automatically be considered for the S. Georgia Nugent Award. Those who want to be considered for the S. Georgia Nugent Award in Creative Writing must submit their form by January 20. Students are not required to major in English or take Creative Writing courses. Each scholarship ranges up to $25,000 per year and is renewable for four years as long as the student maintains an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. All first-year applicants are eligible, including Early Decision applicants. Transfer students are not eligible.
How to Apply
The S. Georgia Nugent Awards are determined on a competitive basis and require the Kenyon Writing Award scholarship form. All scholarship materials must be uploaded to the Kenyon Admissions Portal. (Applicants will receive their username and password within two days after submission of the application for admission.)
Submission guidelines are as follows:
- A five page portfolio of your work using double spacing, 1-inch margins and 12-pt font. (Poems should be submitted using single-spacing.) All pages should have a header containing your name (Last, First) and the page number.
- Submissions may include a variety of work, for example, five different one-page poems or one short story.
- Excerpts of a short story, novel or other longer work are permitted.
- Writing must be creative in nature; please do not submit analytical essays or book reviews.
Applicants are encouraged to select works that demonstrate their highest level of technical skill and overall writing ability. If you have any questions about portfolio materials, please contact Chris Renaud in the Office of Admissions at renaudc@kenyon.edu.
