To inform students on Conditional Enrollment of their CE status based upon the recommendation of the Committee on Academic Standards (CAS) which takes into account the semester GPA achieved in the most recent academic semester as well as other applicable factors (NOTE: Students being readmitted on CE after time away from Kenyon will be apprised in their readmission correspondence by the Dean of Student Development)
To answer any questions and address any concerns regarding applicable CE conditions (i.e., CE conditions differ for students who are newly placed on CE vs. students who are continued on CE or advised to withdraw but choose to return)
To check in with students at the start of the following semester and affirm the importance of setting up meetings with their faculty advisor and CE advisor, and utilizing campus resources for academic and non-academic support, throughout the semester
Student on Conditional Enrollment
To ask any questions and express any concerns to the Dean regarding applicable CE conditions
To maintain open communication with their faculty advisor, CE advisor, course faculty, coaches, and other campus resources regarding their academic performance, non-academic involvement, personal health and well-being, and appropriate steps that need to be taken to address issues
To meet with their faculty advisor at the start of the semester, review applicable CE conditions, define academic goals and priorities against the backdrop of non-academic involvement, and review/discuss/adjust course selections based on CE conditions (particularly unit restrictions), balance, degree progress, and major progress
To work closely with their CE advisor throughout the CE semester, meeting on a weekly, bi-weekly, or as-needed basis, depending on a needs assessment at the start of the semester
At the beginning of the semester, to focus on: Planning their semester, reviewing their course syllabi, and noting academic and course deadlines on their calendars
Throughout the semester, to focus on: Keeping on top of their workload; going to office hours; connecting with their faculty advisor and course faculty; balancing academic work and non-academic involvement; seeking counseling, health, SASS, financial, and/or other campus resources for guidance and support as needed
To follow up with their CE advisor regarding work completion, course marks, and other indicators of academic performance/engagement
To review progress reports (submitted by course faculty throughout the CE semester) and connect with course faculty about appropriate next steps (particularly if reports bring up any areas of concern), and keep their faculty advisor and CE advisor apprised of these conversations
To provide a reflective piece of writing on the CE semester to CAS at the end of the semester
Faculty Advisor
To meet with their students on CE at the start of the semester and review applicable CE conditions, in both academic and non-academic realms
To define academic goals and priorities against the backdrop of non-academic involvement
To review/discuss/adjust course selections based on CE conditions (particularly unit restrictions), balance, degree progress, and major progress
To check in regarding progress reports (submitted by course faculty throughout the CE semester) and encourage their students to connect with course faculty about appropriate next steps (particularly if reports bring up any areas of concern)
To maintain open communication with the CE advisors assigned to their students regarding appropriate steps that need to be taken
To connect with course faculty directly as needed and/or appropriate (especially if reports articulate serious and/or ongoing issues of concern)
To connect with coaches (who are copied on progress reports) directly as needed and/or appropriate (especially if reports articulate serious and/or ongoing issues of concern)
To provide commentary on their students and their performance/engagement/development to CAS at the end of the semester
Course Faculty
To submit progress reports throughout the semester for all students on CE (NOTE: Progress reports should be submitted regularly so that students will know how well they are performing, regardless of whether they are performing at high, low, or mediocre levels)
NOTE: Faculty will be directly apprised after the add/drop period if they have students on CE in their classes for the semester, and reminded throughout the semester to submit progress reports for these students (as well as any other students of concern)
To provide commentary on their students and their performance/engagement/development to CAS at the end of the semester
